Finest quality Japanese Meiji era cloisonne kogo or small lidded vase. Unsigned but I'm certain it is a work by noted maker Honda Yasaburo. Have found multiple known works by him utilizing the same speckled yellow enamel. The last picture shows a signed vase by Honda that features that color, and an extremely similar design at the upper border. This Kogo features 4 motifs of two hoho birds facing each other, with elaborate hanging designs between. Lid has similar smaller motifs on a speckled lavender enamel, and a maroon top border similar to the top and bottom borders on the body of the Kogo. Has fine chrysanthemum finial similar to those used by Namikawa Yasuyuki.
Overall in very fine condition, Has some very slight darkened discoloration, mostly in the area at bottom in the yellow color. Finial is slightly loose but still attached. Otherwise it has no damage whatsoever, and presents beautifully when displayed. We have provided excellent hi-res photos so you can judge condition for yourself.
